The seventh-generation 100-series Toyota Corolla, introduced in 1991, attracted attention for its high-quality finish that surpassed class norms, reflecting the historical context.
The van, which debuted a little later than the sedan, continued to be produced even after the passenger car series underwent a model change, becoming a long-selling model that remained in production without major styling changes until 2002.
Kani Douraku is a specialty crab cuisine restaurant headquartered in Dotonbori, Osaka, with 40 locations across the, Kanto, Chugoku, and Shikoku regions.
The giant moving crab sign displayed at the Dotonbori Main Store has become one of Osaka's representative tourist attractions.
The Corolla Van, which was active as a company car for Kani Douraku, featured a crab sculpture on the roof just like the signs displayed in stores. The side of the car featured the company logo and the catchphrase "Tore Tore Pichi Pichi," making it very eye-catching when seen in the city.
The actual car was used mainly in the Umeda and Kitashinchi areas and the region until around 2017, so many people may still remember it.
TOMICA Limited Vintage will present the lineup of the one-of-a-kind Toyota Corolla Van DX "Kani Douraku Sales Vehicle Edition," a one-of-a-kind collaboration with Kani Doraku.
The crab sculpture on the roof is recreated three-dimensionally using a special mold. The license plate is printed with the exact same number as the real car, "Naniwa 45 Ta 181."
