The DD51, sporting its distinctive blue Hokkaido livery, pulled sleeper express trains such as the Hokutosei and Twilight Express in double-headed configuration.

◆Vehicle Guide
The DD51 locomotives that were in service with JR Hokkaido were repainted in blue with a gold star mark to coincide with the start of operations for the sleeper express "Hokutosei".
It was mainly used to haul passenger trains, including the "Hokutosei," but was retired in 2016 with the discontinuation of the sleeper express "Cassiopeia" and the express train "Hamanasu."

- Recreating the appearance of the Hokutosei in its original livery from around 2006.
- The handrails on the front deck have been reproduced with a curved shape in the center.
- The roof ventilator is newly manufactured to recreate its position next to the SG chimney.

- Recreates a train with the train radio antenna located on the front of the cab.

- The headlights are equipped with a constant-on circuit board and an ON/OFF switch.

- The H-shaped rubber is reproduced in black.
