I was an elementary school student during the supercar boom, so I'm in my 50s and I'm part of the supercar-obsessed generation. I never missed an episode of the TV show "Supercar Quiz."
Growing up in the countryside, I rarely saw real supercars, and if I did see one, I would be bombarded with questions from everyone, and that alone made me popular in my class. The Lamborghini Countach LP500 S shown in the photo was the most popular, a legendary supercar that I thought I would never see on a public road in my lifetime. I often made plastic models of the Countach, but sometimes I would get glue in the wrong places and have trouble getting the retractable headlights and scissor doors to open and close properly.

On my days off, I would grab my father's Minolta SLR camera and spend the whole day on the country roads waiting for a supercar to pass by, not knowing if it might or might not come.
In the end, they never came, but because they passed by so rarely, I sometimes took pictures of Japanese cars that I liked, such as the Celica, Fairlady Z, Savanna, and Silvia.
Nowadays, if you were to take a photo without permission, you would be displeased or sued for violating portrait rights, but in the past, people were more tolerant. In fact, people were happy just to point their camera at them. I got carried away and even pointed my camera at cars that I had no intention of photographing. (laughs)

25 years later, in 2003, I became the person in charge of the TOMICA event called TOMICA Expo, and to make my old dream come true, I produced a supercar-themed event.
We borrowed a Lamborghini Countach LP400, a Lamborghini Miura SV, and a De Tomaso Pantera from the owner and exhibited them. Of course, TOMICA exhibit was also dominated by supercars. We were also able to use a yellow Countach as a commemorative TOMICA for visitors.
It was a very memorable job for me to be able to see these legendary supercars with my own eyes and then turn them into products.

This legendary supercar, the Lamborghini Countach LP500 S, is now available in three colors as an RS series (1/43 model), which is larger than the regular TOMICA!
